The "I'm looking for a name" Thread

Postby Lestat DeLioncourt » Tue May 31, 2011 5:54 pm

I open this thread with my last post at BGSF

Then "shady moon tavern"...moonlight doesn't describe what is going on inside. The tavern on the border to Granite Hall County is a pool of shattered people, illegal gambling and the right place to hire a contract killer to cut someones throat or a mercenary as companion to loot a ruin nearby. If someone have a better name for such place...post it

Here are some screens of the tavern

Let's find a name for a pool of sin :D

dim-star tavern?
dark-wood tavern?
black-(tree name) tavern?
naked nord tavern?

or we could use a norman\norse word?

atori/torr (stained, mouldy)
brague/braka (vivacious, noisy)
drôle/tröll.. (imaginary being which is able to frighten, goblin, troll)

eh?

Since the tavern is nearby a river I've named it "Shadow Creek Tavern".

Wollies idea with naming it by a tree is cool, but it needs some sort of unique tree for that choice of naming.

We still need a name for the forest in the Reach. I remember a suggestion for "Everspring Lady Forest" a while ago, however I'm not convinced by that name...maybe "Everspring Forest"...but let's see if we will find something more suitable.

Otherweise Pebbly/Gritty Bend Hostel? (referring to both the nearby road and river)

Shadowcreek seems a bit obvious to me.

No offense, but I seriously think shadowcreek is just as bad as twillight. I mean, think of the Thieves Guild-Taverns. The one in Balmora is just called Southwall, no extraordinary hint there.

To be fair, Pebby Bend Hostel is not that good either. But I like the idea of involving Hostel here, because it seems right to me.

I need a cool, ancient nord sounding name for this lake

Image

This lake belongs to 70% to Haafinheim/ Solitude County and to 30% to The Reach/ Markarth County

Lake Blåviddan? I looked at a Norwegian translator and typed in "blue expanse" and added an "n". Barrows in Bloodmoon sometimes used danish to name them.

the island reminds me of one on the sabine river. dunno, how about Saibeanneth Lake. looks like good fishing water anyways, be a good idea to put some sunk rowboats around in it. and lots of fish!

I like Blåviddan the most so far. I don't know if we were going to try to cope without umlauts. Unfortunately I cannot think of a way to make the same name looking good without the å in it.

Lake Blåviddan is also my favorite, combiined with Rattfinks idea of the fishing ground.

The umlaut was no problem, I didn't know how to type it, but I know how to copy/ paste it (the umlaut) ;)

Everthing is displayed fine in the CS. Now cell -99,22 is named Lake Blåviddan

Thanks for the input guys

Hey guys. I'm reviving this thread because I need some cave names for my npcing claim. About 7-8 should be good.

I'm thinking, since the caves are located in the Reach and I believe we're using Celtic sounding names for the Reachmen, perhaps the names for the caves should have a Celtic theme?

The names don't need to have any meaning behind them, but they sound cool, of course :D

Thank's in advance 8-)

Yeah, but shouldn't we replace them with something more appropriate, like we renamed Granitehall to Felsundhal?

I would only use names of TES V - caves if a cave really fulfills the same function the TES V- cave has (both should be silvermines or both should be spriggan caves etc.)

Now that you are working on caves, Yeti:
-Place a lot of spikeworms around, they were made for Reach-caves. They should be in big groups, preferrably, otherwise they will be very weak.
-Remove a purpose-lacking entrance to a further cave within one big cave i made (the one with cliff-meshes in it)
